About this tool
Steganography hides the existence of a secret message inside ordinary-looking data — unlike encryption, which only hides the content. A person who views the output image sees nothing unusual.
How LSB steganography works
Every pixel stores three colour channels (red, green, blue), each a number from 0–255. Flipping the last bit of any channel changes the colour by just 1 unit — completely invisible to the human eye. This tool writes 3 hidden bits per pixel (one into each of R, G, B), preceded by a 10-byte magic header that lets the decoder find and read the data.
- A 1920 × 1080 image can hide ~776 KB of text
- The optional passphrase XOR-scrambles the message bytes before embedding
- The download is always a PNG — JPEG's lossy compression would destroy the hidden bits
Limitations
- Not a substitute for strong encryption. The passphrase is a simple XOR cipher — light obfuscation only. For sensitive data, encrypt the message with a proper cipher (e.g. the Encrypt / Decrypt tool) before hiding it.
- Keep it as PNG. Re-saving as JPEG, or uploading to social media platforms that re-compress images, will destroy the hidden data.
- Everything runs locally using the Canvas API — no data leaves your browser.
